Foligno, Italy is one of the most unique towns in the location that it was built. During Roman times, many of the villages in the Umbria area were built high atop hills for protection from invading armies. Foligno was built in the valley on the banks of the Topino River where the river drained into the swamplands that were created by the river itself.

The Romanic churchs bell tower is an awesome example of architectural design of the 11th century while the frescoes date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. When you stand at the foot of the 128 columns of the Abbey of Sassovivo you will feel the mystical and magical power that was once felt centuries ago.
